The adult croaker found in these waters are about nine-15 inches and weigh a few pounds. Black Drum. This fish is found along the Atlantic coast from Massachusetts to Argentina, but is most abundant in the warmer waters. Like the Atlantic croaker, it’s a bottom feeder with small, sharp teeth in the jaws and large, flat teeth on the floor and roof of the mouth for crushing clams, snails, crabs and other hard-bodied, bottom-dwelling animals. The black drum is the largest of the bony fish you’re likely to encounter inshore.

The big one is no more prolific anywhere than here. Among the species that populate these waters are the mighty tarpon, sharks of every shape and size, including the hammerhead and tiger shark, tuna, blue marlin, dolphin (the fish, not Flipper), barracuda, amberjack, cobia, black sea bass, king mackerel, swordfish and, the most spectacular of all, the sailfish. Charters are available everywhere for a half-day, full day, or you can charter for several days. Rates, depending upon the location and season, run from $250 for a four-hour trip to as much as $600 for a full 12 hours.
